Versailles has attracted travelers ever since it was transformed under the direction of Louis XIV into one of the most magnificent royal cha teaux in Europe. Two gilded doors in The Met collection are closely related to the doors in the Chapel Room at Versailles, carved in 1710 by Jules Degoullons (ca. 1671–1737) and his associates. It is thought that these magnificent doors were formerly at Versailles as well. Our zip pouch features a detail from these lavish panels.
