Since the dawn of civilization, jade has been one of the rarest and most valuable of stones. The Chinese valued jade higher than gold. It was known as the "imperial gem" and adorned the palaces and vestments of royalty. It was even held that through a Bi (jade disc with a hole in the center) the emperor was able to communicate with the gods. Jade was also believed to grant wisdom and to ensure longevity and prosperity to those who adorned themselves or their home with this sacred stone.
